HIGH-PITCHED, FAST-PACED CHUCKLES
These chuckles convey a mild to moderate level of curiosity, interest and/or eagerness.
Each chuckle "note" gives a brief high-pitched squeak or squeal and then is either cut off during the exhale or falls immediately to a very short medium to
lower-pitched, breathy "note" that lasts from 1/3 to 1/2 second in length. Often, the lower-pitched "breathy" portion of the note is actually the
accentuated sound of the bull sucking air back into his lungs rather than an actual "exhaled" vocalization.
Individual notes are strung together in a cadence, or rhythm, that stacks roughly two to three notes per second, back to back. Strings can often be
between 5 and 20 notes, with strings of 7 to 12 notes being reasonably common.
EXCITED CHUCKLES
Excited Chuckles convey a more intense—or elevated—level of interest, eagerness, or "earnestness."
Each chuckle "note" gives a high-pitched squeal, which is then either cut off in mid-exhale, or falls to a medium- to lower-pitched "note." Each note lasts
about 1/2 second to 3/4 of a second in length. Often, the lower-pitched portion of the note is actually the accentuated sound of the bull sucking air back
into his lungs, rather than an actual "exhaled" vocalization.
Individual notes are strung together in a cadence, or rhythm, that stacks roughly one to two notes per second, back to back. Strings can often be between
3 and 10 notes, with strings of 5 to 7 notes being fairly common. For Excited Chuckles, the longer and higher pitched the squeals are within each string
of notes, and the "raspier"—or "growlier"—the "inhales" or "lung sounds" are in the string, the more intense the string is, and the more intense the bull's
level of interest and/or eagerness is in that situation.
