What You'll See:
If you've ever wanted a video that you could use to help you perfect your Contact Bugles, THIS is it!!! The bull in this sequence is the MASTER, and gives you PLENTY of examples of Contact Bugles, Contact "Check" Bugles, Moans, and more!
This video is presented as a "hybrid" between a Gallery video and a Strategies in Action video: Chris will label a number of the vocalizations to help you identify them (like in The Gallery videos), but also add written comments during, and a follow-up discussion at the end (like in the other Strategies in Action videos).
Like some of the other videos, this sequence is almost completely un-cut, so you'll see everything as it happened, as fast (or slow...) as it happened, out in the field.
Setting the Stage:
Earlier in the morning, Chris was checking out a new area, and found a group of bulls – presumably with cows – that were bugling fairly consistently, and that seemed to have at least one or two mature bulls in it. On his way in toward the group, a spike just happened to be cruising by and busted Chris as he was setting up the camera. When the spike ran back to the rest of the group, all the animals got spooked slightly and headed off the top of the ridge and down into an adjacent valley. Chris let things settle down for about 30 minutes, and then followed.
As he made his way down into the valley below, suddenly a bull bugled a couple hundred yards in front of him that sounded like a decent bull. Chris waited for a little bit to see exactly where the bull was, and when the bull bugled again, it sounded closer and as though it was headed straight for Chris' location. So, Chris set up the camera, hit record, and... you'll see the rest.
Viewing / Listening Tips:
This sequence can be listened to via headphones or earbuds – to pick up on some of the subtle vocalizations that are made in this sequence. HOWEVER... this bull is EXTREMELY loud, so use CAUTION on where you set your volume; don't set it too loud or you may hurt your ears. In all honesty, this sequence can be listened to via your computer/device's speakers just fine with the volume turned up a bit.

What You'll See:
This sequence kicks off about an hour after "Part One" was filmed, and provides another great example of just how well elk can pinpoint the location of your calling, and how easy it is to have bulls naturally stop right in front of you if you have your set-up right. Highlighting... -
Unsociable Cows
What You'll See:
In this video, you'll see a perfect example of what happens when cows want nothing to do with you! We've all been there: we're working a bull, he sounds interested, but all of a sudden he starts moving away – albeit still bugling - and then simply disappears. Many times, the rea... -
Age and Wisdom
What You'll See:
This sequence follows the "Unsociable Cows" video: it shows what Chris did after the cows pulled the bull away and after they finally headed to their bedding area for the morning. Another example of working bulls in close to their bedding areas, this video highlights "the long g...
