Calling a Bedded Bull

What You'll See:
Whether we stumble in on one, or we work the wind right and make a play for a midday set-up, sometimes we have an opportunity to try and call a bull out of his bed. In this sequence, Chris shows what he does to call a bull out of his bed, and the patience that is often involved when doing so. While this set-up engages a young bull, very little - if anything - would have been different if it had been a more mature bull.
Setting the Stage:
Chris had been working his way in on some cows and bugling bulls that were getting close to their bedding area, when suddenly he realized there were two elk already bedded 30-40 yards in front of him–a young bull, and a cow. While he was pinned down momentarily, the rest of the elk moved over the hill and - apparently - bedded roughly 100-150 yards away. While he waited to see how to make a move on the herd bull(s), the cow got up and trotted off, leaving the young bull by himself. …a perfect recipe for calling a bull out of his bed, and “…to your toes!”
Viewing / Listening Tips:
Most of this sequence is probably best listened to with headphones or ear-buds simply because of all the wind noise; you may need to have your volume up a little louder than normal. Be careful, however, when the video says “…check your volume” because the bull bugles right at the camera and it can be a bit loud.

Sometimes we have to absolutely scramble to get on a bull as quickly as possible before he moves off, it get’s too dark, or we just run out of time to capitalize on a particular situation. In this video, Chris races the diminishing daylight to try and call in a bull that had - u... -

What You'll See:
While this video might be a little “slower” than some of the others, it still carries its fair share of great lessons! In this video, you’ll see how a more “open” Doorway can encourage a bull to keep his distance, and you’ll hear some great bull vocalizations/bugling that you sh...
