Cow and Calf Interactions

What You’ll See:
In this sequence, a mature cow calls her calf to her side to nurse.
Setting the Stage:
A group of cows and calves were feeding contently on the edge of an open meadow, scattered over a fairly wide area. Immediately before the camera started rolling, the prominent cow in this sequence began calling and walking, looking for her calf. This sequence picks up just after the calf’s initial response to its mother, as the cow continues calling, and the calf makes its way over to her. By far, this is one of the best demonstrated examples of an Assembly Mew, what it is, how it sounds, and what it’s used for.
Viewing Tips:
Turn your volume up to hear the quiet, subtle vocalizations by the cow, or use headphones or earbuds.
Vocalizations:
Lost Mews, Assembly Mews, Demanding Mews, "Long" Mews, and Whines
