What You'll See:
In this sequence, you’ll get to see why understanding elk body language and behavior can be so important; not only to know what calling strategy to employ, but also to help you determine how long you should work a set-up, even if the initial conditions aren’t perfect. For this video, Chris provides detailed commentary throughout the event as it unfolds, pointing out important things to take note of, and keep in mind for yourself, should you be in a similar situation this upcoming fall.
Setting the Stage:
Immediately after the conclusion of the “Calling a Bedded Bull” video/encounter, Chris headed off in the direction of the larger group that had been vocalizing. As he made his way down the ridge, he suddenly realized he had walked right into this bull and “his” two cows. Because the cows were oblivious to him being there, Chris quickly set the camera up and decided to try and call/work the group and see what he could do. What unfolds, and the how and why, is outlined in detail in the video.
Viewing / Listening Tips:
This sequence NEEDS headphones to really appreciate some of the content. If you can’t use headphones, watch the video when you can set your speakers fairly loud so that the elk vocalizations can be better heard.
